CARE + CONNECT: Empowering Mental Health Support Across European Higher Education Institutions

Across higher education institutions in Europe, students are facing unprecedented levels of stress, anxiety, and mental health challenges driven by academic pressure, social isolation, and limited access to support services. The CARE + CONNECT project is a two-year Erasmus+ cooperative initiative designed to address these urgent issues by strengthening university mental health frameworks. Running from October 2025 to September 2027, the project brings together six international partner organizations to co-create evidence-based, accessible tools integrated directly into university environments.

The program relies on two primary interconnected components: CARE and CONNECT. The CARE strand focuses on individual well-being by offering an 8-module multilingual online Internet Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (iCBT) course tailored to help students manage stress and build emotional resilience at their own pace. Complementing this, the CONNECT strand builds peer support networks and safe discussion environments within universities, training students and staff in active listening and mental health first aid. Together, these initiatives foster an inclusive community culture that normalizes open dialogue around mental health.
